Wire Length Calculator

Calculate total wire length needed for wire wrapping — simple loops, basic wraps, coiled wraps, or a custom multiplier.

The desired finished length of the piece.

Tips

  • Always buy 10-15% more wire than calculated — mistakes happen, especially while learning.
  • Coiled wraps use more wire than you'd expect. When in doubt, go with a higher multiplier.
  • For chainmaille wire estimation, use the Jump Ring Calculator — it handles ring count and waste factor.

How It Works

The multipliers (1.5×–2.5×) are rules of thumb based on how much wire gets consumed by loops, coils, and wraps beyond the straight length of the finished piece. More complex wrapping styles fold the wire back on itself more, so they use proportionally more material. Use a custom multiplier if your technique falls outside the presets.
